VHCC wants to be College Tree USA

Virginia Highlands Community College Horticulture Instructor Ben Casteel unloads several of the trees the college in going to plant as part of a Earth Day Arbor Day celebration.  The school is trying to be certified as a Tree Campus USA, which would be the first Community College in Virginia.

Shearing Time at Dreamland Alpacas

Dreamland Alpacas was having 57 Alpacas sheared on this week as they do every year in April.  The 4-10 pounds of fleece can be made into shoe inserts, gloves, hats, scarfs, seat cushions, rugs and several other wearable items.  The Meadowview farm consists of 10 acres and was started up in 2007 by David and Debbie MacLeish.

Avoca gets $5000 for Technology in Elementary School from CenturyLink

Marchelo Maynor, left, with Centurylink talks to Avoca Elementary School teachers Dustin Pannell, center, and Martin Winters who helped write the grant for the $5000 from CenturyLink for the school to update the broadcasting equipment used in the school.  The school currently uses this storage room for the inhouse programs they produce.  The teachers want to expand the programs to learing videos made by the children to help others with subjects they are learning in classes.

Master Knife Maker on History Channel

Burt Foster has been making knives for decades since he was 19 yrs. old in California.  Foster recently appeared on the show forged in fire where he won the competition.



Some of the knives that are made by Burt Foster of Bristol, Virginia.  Foster has been making knives for decades since he was 19 yrs. old.  Foster specializes in stainless and carbon laminated steel, Damascus steel and even basic, high-performance, working knives that he calls "blue collar" knives.

Rhythm and Roots Reunion Line up Announced

The Beth Snapp Band performed during the Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion lineup party on Thursday at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.  Snapp will be one of the bands to play during the 3 day event.

Speedway Children's Charities brings in Waltrip and Ragan
