Birthplace of Country Music holds song writing for kids day

Cheryl Toth records students from Van Pelt Elementary School sing the song they just wrote on Wednesday.  5th. Grade students at Van Pelt Elementary School spent Wednesday brainstorming song ideas at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.  Kid Pan Alley is a national music education program that has presented to school groups across the U.S., empowering children to write their own songs. It is based in Virginia. Paul Reisler, founder and artistic director and Cheryl Toth, executive director were helping the children put together ideas for a song and then the verses.  The topic was the Flooding in Houston, TX.

Local Company providing meals to Flooding Texas

Lee Schierbaum packs meals being produced in Piney Flats by Chef Minute Meals for Hurricane Harvey.  The company produces meals that self heat and other that need to be microwaved or boiled.  The self contained meals have been sent around the world when weather or other natural events happen.

Confederate Memorials in the TriCities Area

The Washington County Courthouse in Abingdon Virginia has two monuments for the Confederate Soldiers.  One is a soldier, left, and the other is a memorial to the Generals who were from Washington County.

Emory Train Station getting a facelift.

Scott Parrish paints Emory Blue and Dove White paint on the train station at Emory, Virginia.  The Emory & Henry Train Station has been getting a facelift over the past weeks.  New metal roof, new paint and new stairs for entry. The Emory Train Depot was built in 1912 and served as a train station for travelers, including Emory & Henry students, traveling to and from Emory, Va.  Until recently, The Depot served as the home to the 1912 Art Gallery, but was recently renovated to become the home of the Athletic Training Department.   Note: our project manager believes that the roof that was just removed is the original. The paint color is Dover White, which is the official exterior paint of the college.

Solar Time in Tennessee

The 4th Grade class at Holston View Elementary School brought blankets to lay on as they watched the Solar Eclipse on Monday afternoon.  The lower grades stayed inside to watch on TV and the upper grades got to use viewing tubes and glasses during the event.

It's Bristol Baby now a sign

South Holston Lake and River Clean up Saturday

Trucks and boats loaded with trash arrive at Observation Knob to be off loaded into garbage trucks as part of the South Holston Lake Clean up.  This is the 25th. Year for the event that involves hundreds of volunteers and brings in tons of trash.

Fans are in Bristol Early and ready for Racing

Jerry and Karen Johnson from Pennsylvania, 12 hours awar, and 16 of their friends are setting up their homes away from home at Race Day Campground.  The Johnson's have been coming to BMS for 15 years for the spring and fall races.
