Honor Guard dedicates American Flag to new Hilton Garden Inn

VFW Post 6975 Patton-Crosswhite, Bristol VA-TN Color Guard members Tommy Porter, Butch Rhymer and David Horwell install the American Flag on the pole outside the new Hilton Garden Inn in Bristol, Virginia on Wednesday.  The Post raised the colors to the playing of Call to Colors and then a gun salute.  The ribbon cutting ceremony is to be held on Thursday at 11:00 am.

Miss Tennessee Hayley Lewis visits Elizabethton and Carter County Schools

Hayley Lewis, Miss Tennessee, visited several schools in Elizabethton, Tennessee on Tuesday.  Students heard a program about character, respect and anti-bullying.  In addition, the students were treated to an interactive song with students and Miss Tennessee.

Diannah Pennington talked about her father Associated Press photographer Harvey Georges during a lecture on Saturday in the Hayters Gap Library.  Pennington brought examples of Georges work and also the cameras that he used to photograph presidents from Harry Truman to Jimmy Carter and other events in the Washington DC area.  The photo shown is Harry Truman and his wife in a photo they used for 1946 Christmas card.

Boone Lake Marina has several of its floating docks laying on the mud as a result of the TVA lowering Boone Lake for Dam  Repair.  The Marina does have three floating covered docks usable and still has gasoline pumps that are still working.

Junior League helping build Free Little Libraries.

Tiffany Goforth, marketing director United Southeast Federal Credit Union, talks to students in the Sullivan Central High School personal finance about the Banzai online finance program.  The students log on and take tests about finance knowledge and play out real life  scenarios about money and budgeting.
