Elizabethton upsets Sullivan Central in District Play Girls Basketball

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Having been eliminated by Elizabethton in last year’s District 1-AA girls basketball tournament, Sullivan Central seemed likely to have something to prove to the Cyclones in Monday’s district championship game at Sullivan East.  But the Cougars, ranked sixth in the state, swept the Cyclones en route to a Three Rivers Conference title this season, and it was Elizabethton with the bigger chip on its shoulder when it mattered most.  Tournament MVP Kaitlin Bailey scored four of her 18 points in a 6-0 run that gave Elizabethton a 51-45 lead beginning at the 2:50 mark of the fourth quarter and it pulled away for a 59-47 win and a second straight district title for third year coach Lucas Andrews.

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Daniel Boone senior guard Jared Adkins had a career night on a night that concluded the regular season career of Sullivan East coach John Dyer. The Dyer Dome on Valentine’s Day was the perfect setting for the passionate Dyer, whose teams always seem to play with a lot of heart. But Adkins had other ideas and made six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 32 points in the Trailblazers’ 80-68 victory.
