Boy Scouts train for Aviation Merit Badge Saturday

Northeast State Community College instructor Richard Blevins performs a visual check of fluids in his airplane during BSA Day at Tri-City Aviation to Troop 99 and Troop 94.  Saturday, April 13, Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) will hosted an aviation merit badge event for 60 members of the Sequoyah Council, Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Held at Tri-City Aviation, the day featured a tour of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Tower, a demonstration of aircraft preflight checks, and exploration of various aviation careers.

Tri Cities Airport gets new flights from American Airlines in 2019

American Airlines starts Daily service to  Dallas Fort Worth from Tri-Cities starting in September 2019.

Prayer Vigil for Sullivan County Sheriff's Deputy Hinkle

A prayer vigil was held outside the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office on Sunday to pray for Deputy Steve Hinkle who was shot on Saturday during a call.  Greg Burton, center, is with Colonial Heights Baptist Church and also works with the Sullivan County Jail Chapel.  Burton began the vigil and encouraged those attending to pray with the law enforcement officers who where present and for Deputy Hinkle.

Sullivan County looking for Animal Shelter Space

Sullivan County Mayor Richard Venable wants to make a former children's home in Blountville the county's new animal shelter. He is consulting an architect on whether the building can be renovated for that purpose. Talking to animal shelter manager to get her thoughts on the proposal too.

Fires in Blountville and Bristol during Fire Alert Day

A fire fighter walks through the remains of the greenhouses of Canh Bui of Blountville.  A fire started and was fanned by the low humidity and winds that took the fire through the property buring buildings, cars, and part of the house of Bui. Sullivan County, Avoca, Bluff City Volunteer Fire Departments were on hand as well as other agencies from Kingsport.

Meals on Wheels now gives out pet food with lunches

Racheal Peppard, Meals on Wheels, left, looks throught the donations of pet food and other items with Dr. Karen Stone at Appalachian Animal Hospital in Blountville, Tennessee.  The organizations have been collecting pet food for the Meals on Wheels to deliver to customers with pets to keep them from feeding human food to their pets.

Sullivan County takes over Shelter

Drogo dozes in his doggie bed in the front office of the Sullivan County Animal Shelter on Monday.  The Country took over operations of the shelter recently and is in the process of making changes and upgrades.  Drogo recently made a visit to a middle school as part of a meet the animal shelter pet event. Shelter Manager Brandi Perkey talks about the new operations in background.

Veteran Dog Tags found and reunited

Legislative Day of Service at Second Harvest Food Bank.

Second Harvest Project Thanksgiving

Alice Lucas with the TriCities Beta Club was helping load boxes for the Second Harvest Food Bank Thanksgiving Day boxes.  Lucas has volunteered for several years.  Second Harvest is short in funding for the boxes they would like to have available for the holiday's.

WCQR and Second Harvest Thanksgiving Box Program

Rhonda Chafin, Executive Director Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee, WCQR  Adam McCain and Rhonda Lacey, Morning Hosts, announced the partnering together for the 10th. year of the Project Thanksgiving food box.  Last year Thanksgiving boxes were given out to over 6,200 families under the program.

Battle of Blountville 2017

Confederate Troops march to inspection prior to the Battle of Blountville on Saturday.  The 3 day event is held to remember the September 22, 1863 Battle of Blountville.  Over 100 reenactors were present for the Battle to be held on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
