The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department’s new quintuple combination pumper truck was custom-built for the department and will be ready to go into service in about a week. The truck features a 60 foot ladder, which firefighters say is needed in the western end of the city where the truck will be used.

Approx. 50 family and friends of the department gathered for the event. Police blue lights were on during the vigil casting the hue.

Heather Suess, a district executive in the Sequoyah Council of the Boy Scouts of America, created a way for disadvantaged children in the Tri-Cities to participate in Cub Scouts. She says she grew up in the projects herself, and wants to help children learn they can rise above their circumstances and achieve their dreams.

Mac McCollum is walking from Knoxville to Arlington National Cemetery for Memorial Day 2012.

Aviation legend Evelyn Bryan Johnson of Morristown died Thursday afternoon.

Johnson was 102 and was known as "Mama Bird." Johnson was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio in 2007. She is said to have logged more flight hours, trained more pilots and given more Federal Aviation Administration exams than any other pilot on the planet.

I had the pleasure of working with Johnson in 2005 for American Profile.  She was a great lady and fun to be around for the day and to meet.  My prayers are with the family.
