Virginia High School graduated seniors at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday, May 22.  Covid-19 caused the students to use social distancing while still experiencing the graduation excitement.

Candlelight Vigil held for Baby Boswell

The community gathered Tuesday evening at St. Anne Catholic Church in Bristol, Virginia, to pray for 15-month-old Evelyn Boswell after remains were found last week on property in Blountville, Tennessee. Evelyn was the subject of a statewide Amber Alert in Tennessee.  Ribbons were given out for people to wear in support.

Elizabethton upsets Sullivan Central in District Play Girls Basketball

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Having been eliminated by Elizabethton in last year’s District 1-AA girls basketball tournament, Sullivan Central seemed likely to have something to prove to the Cyclones in Monday’s district championship game at Sullivan East.  But the Cougars, ranked sixth in the state, swept the Cyclones en route to a Three Rivers Conference title this season, and it was Elizabethton with the bigger chip on its shoulder when it mattered most.  Tournament MVP Kaitlin Bailey scored four of her 18 points in a 6-0 run that gave Elizabethton a 51-45 lead beginning at the 2:50 mark of the fourth quarter and it pulled away for a 59-47 win and a second straight district title for third year coach Lucas Andrews.

Sullivan East down to Boone on Coach Dyer last home game Friday.

BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – Daniel Boone senior guard Jared Adkins had a career night on a night that concluded the regular season career of Sullivan East coach John Dyer. The Dyer Dome on Valentine’s Day was the perfect setting for the passionate Dyer, whose teams always seem to play with a lot of heart. But Adkins had other ideas and made six 3-pointers en route to a career-high 32 points in the Trailblazers’ 80-68 victory.
