Fun for 10 laps but can't imagine 3-4 hours
Thursday I got the chance to ride in an USAR Pro Cup Series car with Benny Gordon driving around the Bristol Motor Speedway. This was not the casual drive like at Speedway in Lights or the one lap in a Minivan driven by Wayne Estes. No, this was over 100 mph on the straights and braking in the turns. Full suit, 5 point belt system and helmet. The lack of vision was the first thing I noticed as we started out. Second the noise. Third was the lack of feeling I had in body as the vibration started to take over. Sorry George the Painter, but I could not even read the paint job on the track as we cruised over the Start Finish line. Could not hear myself talk as I yelled like a little kid on a roller coaster. Do not know how these guys can press the gas or brake, look up, down, left, right, talk or even hear the crew, breath, etc. for the entire race. Maybe it is the fact they can not that makes it fun. Anyway, thanks to the Bristol Motor Speedway for the opportunity and now I will drive under the speed limit and carefully look in my mirrors as I drive wearing my small seatbelt in my fabric covered seats to work. Oh yea, I will enjoy the air conditioning as well and maybe a Pal's tea.
