High Point Elementary 4th. graders, Ansleigh, Ryan, Olivia, Carter and Reece are shown with new snow plow design they painted for VDOT. Art Teacher Steven Cregger from High Point Elementary painted a plow for VDOT before last snow season as part of a “pilot” program for VDOT Bristol prior to VDOT expanding the activity statewide this year. There are approximately 25 schools participating this year in VDOT’s 12-county Bristol district, including High Point Elementary (Washington County), Duffield Primary (Scott County), and the majority of elementary schools in Russell and Tazewell counties. The Paint-a-Plow activity brings plows, plow drivers and schools together to produce works of art for use during snow removal operations. VDOT gets the plows out to schools in late August/early September and picks them up in late September/early October. VDOT hopes to expand the program further in 2018. Union High School was the only High School to paint the rest were all Elementary Schools.
